Are You About to Lose Your Sh*t?

COVID-19 is wrecking havoc on our wallets, jobs and psyche. It has had us locked down for too long with fear in our hearts and minds. It is completely normal and 1000% human to be on edge at this time. If you are used to being at work or having the kids (and spouse) gone during the day, you must be craving alone time. Just the opportunity to check out of responsibility for a little while.

I just talked my BFF off a ledge, both as a wellness professional and her best friend, and that got me thinking that there is probably more than a few other going through the same things she is.

Here are some simple steps to help you right now:

  1. BREATHE - - When you feel like you are about to lose it, STOP - Close your eyes - Take 10 breaths. Try it now: Breath = Inhale 1 2 3 4 5, Pause, Exhale 1 2 3 4 5, Repeat

  2. Give yourself a little grace! It’s okay that you feel like you are losing it. Allow yourself that. Please don’t beat yourself over something that it out of your control.

  3. Take a B-R-E-A-K! The phrase “mommy needs a timeout” has never been more accurate. Seriously though…go to a separate room and lock the door. Calm down, then return.

  4. Get physical, physical 🎼🎤 - - - Try burning off some of those fears and frustrations by working up a sweat. There are so many FREE resources right now, from yoga at the Pure Synergy Facebook page to strength workouts on the Peloton™ mobile app.

  5. Self-care STAT - Meditate, relax, take a bath, read, paint, whatever you need to. Do something that is just to better you! It’s not selfish, it’s a necessity.

  6. Find yourself in nature. Go get grounded! Dig, walk, plant or sit. Take a drive and find a spot to sit by a lake or river. Find a way to get out into nature.

  7. Get present and QUICK - Stop and connect with your 5 senses:

    1. What do you see?

    2. What can you hear?

    3. What do you smell?

    4. What can you feel?

    5. What do you hear?

  8. Talk to a professional - If nothing is working and you feel for anyone’s safety, call a professional. Tele-med is available for counseling so find someone to talk to. We recommend calling resident counselor Dr. Laura at 972-885-6435.

Take care of yourself and reach out to someone if you need help. We are #strongertogether.
